09 skyscraper competition evoloThe annual Skyscraper Competition organized by eVolo has become an
important architectural prize with high media attention.

The 2008 edition was published by more than ten architecture and design
magazines and by several news, fashion, and art publications.

The eVolo Book with the best projects of the first three years has
received excellent reviews and has been included in the catalog for the
Book Expo America, Frankfurt Book Fair, and Beijing Book Fair.

For the 2009 edition eVolo invites architects, engineers, and designers to
continue exploring on new ideas and concepts for vertical density.

Skyscrapers have been springing up in fast-developing countries without
careful consideration of the urban fabric, environmental effects, and
quality of life.

The 2009 competition calls for innovative designs for the XXI Century
which takes into consideration the historical and social context, the
existing urban fabric, the human scale, and the environment.

There is no restriction on site, height or shape.

The idea is to give the designers enough freedom to address the challenge
in the most creative and innovative way.

Designs must be technologically feasible and environmentally responsible.

The projects should also investigate on the urban and private space as
well as the definition of new programmes for a vertical structure.

Eligibility
All students, architects, engineers and designers are invited to
participate. It is encouraged to have multidisciplined teams. There is no
limit on the number of participants in a team. Individual etries are
accepted.

Registration Fee: 50 Dollars (per team)

As soon as the competition entry fee is received, the participation number
which will be used later on in the submission boards, is sent to the
entrant.

Awards
First Prize: 2.000 Dollars
Second Prize: 1.000 Dollars
Third Prize: 500 Dollars

10 November 2008: Acceptance of questions deadline
24 November 2008: Answers to questions will be posted on website.
12 January 2009: Registration deadline
19 January 2009: 23:00: Submission deadline
16 February 2009: Winners announced

Next Generation Design Competition 2009

The metropolismag every year knocks in our idea doors for something new and innovative. And it always turns to a great brain storming to think beyond the typical boundaries as encouraged by the Next Generation Design Competitions every year.

The title of the competition this year is: “Fix Your Energy Addiction”

The competition is open to any designer or architect in practice for ten years or less, as well as design students. The entry fee is $75 for each submission. All entries must be submitted by January 30, 2009 at 11:59 p.m.

This idea competition is to question our energy consumption habits. The participants may come up with ‘worked out ideas’ from various arrays of way of energy efficiency. It may be a new urban design policy which may reduce the length of commuter traveling from home to work place, may be a new product which helps to reduce the energy consumption in our homes, may be an architectural intervention which will reduce the load of electricity, ac and gas… the path of thinking is quite open. So take a mug of coffee, sketch-pad, pencil and start thinking. It may give you a prize of 10 thousand USD and chance to make your idea in reality!

Intl Design Competition: House of Arts and Culture, Lebanon

It seems the rebuilding Beirut is going to thrive and hopefully going to give a big leap in her culture heritage this time. The Ministry of Culture of Lebanon has declared an international architectural competition to design the House of Arts and Culture in the heart of Beirut city. The competition is open to any registered architect (registered or member of institute of their own country) from any country (association of architects is also allowed).  The first prize winning entry will get the commission for building the project on site. There are monetary prizes for second and third prize winning entries as well.
Registration Deadline: 29th September 2008
Submission Deadline: 30th January 2009
Registration Fee: $ 250 USD non refundable (online registration is open and money transaction can be online or via bank to bank)

The House of Arts and Culture is the first large cultural project to be built in Lebanon. Funded by a grant from the Sultanate of Oman to the Ministry of Culture, it will be located in the capital city of Beirut. The House will offer spaces for the performing and visual arts, for documentation and for training. An incubator for the development of creativity in the country, it will reinforce the role of Beirut as a central place in the international arts scene.

The House of Arts and Culture (the Lebanese-Omani Centre) will be a space for cultural and artistic production, for exchange and interaction between the largest number of Lebanese and especially the youth. It will be an independent space with the aim to contribute to social communication and cultural expansion and to promote creativity in different fields of art and culture.
